The 50KB photo problem
Exam registration sites, government ID and visa applications, and plenty of job portals insist on photos under 50KB — a limit modern phone cameras blow past by 100×. Squeezing a 5MB photo under that cap with a normal compressor means blindly dragging a quality slider and retrying.
This tool solves it directly: it searches for the highest JPEG quality that lands under 50KB, and when quality alone can't get there, it steps the dimensions down too — which looks far better than maximum-crush quality at full resolution. You see the exact final size next to every image before downloading.
How to use it
- Add one or more photos — the 50KB target is preset (adjust it for 20KB signature uploads and similar).
- Click Compress to 50 KB.
- Download each image, or all of them as a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
How does it get under 50KB without ruining the photo?
Binary search over JPEG quality first; if even low quality is too big, it gradually reduces dimensions. The combination preserves much more detail than quality-crushing alone.
My form wants 20KB. Can I do that?
Yes — change the number in the Max size box to 20. For tiny targets the tool will reduce dimensions, which is exactly what signature/photo upload fields expect.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser — your ID photo never touches a server.
